Marinated Herrings
Marinierte Heringe
Serves 6
- 2 carrots
- 1/2 celeriac
- 12 salt herrings
- 4 onions
- 2 dill pickles
- 1 apple
- 2 bay leaf
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 12 pepper corns
- 14 allspice corns
Marinade
- 1 litre sour cream
- 150 g mayonnaise
- sugar
- vinegar
- Worcestershire sauce
- salt
- pepper
Soak herrings for several hours in cold water. Skin and remove bones. Cook carrot and celeriac until soft.
Cut vegetables, apple and pickled cucumber in small cubes or slices.
Make the marinade by mixing all ingredients thoroughly.
Layer herrings, vegetables and spices in a bowl. Pour marinade over the contents, cover and refrigerate for a day.
Serve with peeled potatoes boiled skin-on or micro waved jacket potatoes.
