Grandmother's Beef Roast

Großmutters Rinderbraten
  • 500 g chuck steak
  • mustard
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 Tbs oil
  • 1 Tbs paprika paste
  • flour
  • 100 ml red wine
  • thyme
  • juniper berries, squashed
  • 1 Tbs horseradish paste
  • 1 tsp blackcurrant jam
  • salt
  • pepper

Cut meat into 100g pieces, salt sparingly and coat with mustard.
Heat oil and brown meat and onion. Add paprika paste and dust meat with a little flour. Add red wine, a little water, thyme and junipers. Cook until meat is done.
Strain juices and stir in horseradish and blackcurrant jam to make a sauce.
Serve with noodles, pasta or dumplings.
